Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Roo Systems?
Roo Systems is not just “another tuning workshop” – our diesel performance tuning services have been developed in-house over the last 7 years with some of the best tuning companies worldwide and all tunes are custom designed for four wheel drives in Australian conditions. We stand by our product which is why we offer you a 30-day money back guarantee.

Roo Systems ECU remapping is developed on the dyno as well as emission tested.
All of our performance diesel tuning is custom and developed with years of research and development so that Roo Systems gives you the choice of tune that will suit your 4WD. Be it performance, touring/towing or economy tuning, we have the ability to reach your exact tuning requirements.

So why don’t vehicle manufacturers tune their vehicles?
Some manufacturers offer remapping (predominately for their performance vehicles) but most do not have the ability to do so. Vehicle manufacturers have to build one vehicle for all drivers, it’s a bit like a nice suit off the shelf, it fits well, its looks smart, but it can’t be custom tailored for the end customer, tuning is just the same, if you own a fleet of vans you may want a speed limiter or rev limiter added to help save your fuel, yet another customer may want a little more power to help with towing, or heavy payloads, these sort of changes can only be made once the vehicle is built and the customer needs something other than off the shelf.
Fuel quality, we are often asked to tune for different fuel quality, either higher or lower, once an owner knows where his vehicle will be used and what it will be used for, we can adapt the tuning for environmental, altitude and fuel quality.

Will a remap invalidate my vehicles’ warranty?
No, because nothing we do exceeds the manufacturer’s limits within the ECU. We work within these limits to unlock the potential of your engine. Hence, a remap or any aftermarket work cannot and will not automatically invalidate a vehicle’s warranty. It’s a misconception that it will, and sometimes those that know are not always clear about this fact. 4Wders may want to fit a bull bar, tow bar, suspension or upgraded sound system to their vehicle, these are all common aftermarket accessory upgrades, but they are all aftermarket changes just like a remap, your tow bar does not invalidate your warranty so why should your remap?
However, manufacturers do have the right to investigate and possibly reject a warranty claim if the failure is directly related to and caused by the aftermarket accessory (ECU remap tune), therefore, for your peace of mind, all Roo Systems tuning work is insured and guaranteed for 5 years. If our custom tuning causes a failure inside or outside of the warranty period you are covered. It’s exactly why you should choose Roo Systems for all your 4WD tuning work, only Roo Systems accredited dealers have this depth of cover and your dealer will be happy to show you and talk through the Roo Systems 5 year warranty.

Should I tell my insurance company?
Whilst the upgrade in many cases is undetectable, the responsible and correct answer to this question has to be “yes”, your insurance company should be notified of any modifications including tuning. However, the good news is many insurance companies do not penalise you for upgrades of this nature, particularly if you’re tuning for increased fuel economy.

Will my fuel consumption go up after an ECU remap?
No, in fact quite the opposite, even on a touring & towing tune. If you continue to drive the 4WD in the same way as you did before the upgrade, your fuel consumption will improve.

Will the lifespan of my engine be reduced?
No, not at all if you use a Roo Systems dealer. Because nothing we do exceeds the manufacturer’s limits within the ECU. We work within these limits to unlock the potential of your engine.
Sadly some engines can be over tuned, “stressing” the engine, transmission, cooling systems, brakes, etc, and reducing the life span and reliability of the car. This is why it’s so important to choose the best – choose Roo Systems. The research and development we carry out ensure all our tuning is of the very highest standard possible.

Are plug and play re-maps and files sold on E-Bay any good?
There are a number of basic power upgrades available in a plug and play format or are downloadable from the web. Whilst some of these items can offer slight increases in power, they operate by merely adjusting a specified signal within the ECU by a set tolerance. It’s impossible to compare these inferior upgrades with a full rolling road remap which measures and adjusts hundreds of signals and data files within the ECU.
We advise that these generic files and unsupported devices for sale on the web should be avoided at all cost. We’ve seen too many customers come to us after a bad experience – and there was no one else to turn to either. We’re always happy to advise on your tuning needs, give us a call on 1300 305 709 today.

Will the manufacturer know that my ECU has been tuned?
Potentially yes, under normal circumstances and servicing conditions no.

What happens if the dealer updates the ECU for a service update?
Call us and we’ll arrange to re-tune your ECU – we will offer 3 free upgrades over a 2 year period. Thereafter a service charge will apply.

What will it do for my economy?
Economy can be up to 20% better dependant on your driving style.

Will it damage my ECU? And how safe is it?
It will not damage your ECU but in the event that something happens, you are covered by our 5-year warranty.

Will it upset my shift pattern in my auto?
No, your auto is controlled by the TCM (Transmission Control Module) & not your ECU.

What do I do if it breaks down and I’m nowhere near a dealer?
The best part of an ECU remap is there is no hardware that can fail. If something does cause you to break down call roadside assistance as it will be a component issue outside the ECU or the tuning.

What happens if it goes into limp mode?
Proceed directly to your closest service centre or a Roo Systems Dealer so they can run a diagnostic test to diagnose the problem.

Do we offer an upgrade to an ECU remap to existing chip owners?
Yes, we do, call us on 1300 305 709 today.

Is it better than a chip?
ECU tuning is an alternative to a chip, it’s a more precise way to tune your vehicle, however it does require you to have the work done at a Roo Systems dealer. The chip is our DIY alternative for those unable to visit a Roo Systems Dealer and you will still get similar performance and economy gains.

Why the same price if no hardware is fitted?
There has been a significant amount of investment in time/money/research & development into this technology, the physical time involved in the ECU remap is also substantial.

Can I get different tunes?
Yes, the tune will be custom tuned to reflect the needs of each individual client (ie economy, towing & touring and performance)

What happens if the tuning fries my ECU?
This should not happen but in the unlikely event that this does occur you are covered by our 5-year full comprehensive warranty. We will simply replace the ECU.

Will it damage my clutch?
No, however with every performance modification that gains additional power & torque can highlight any inherent existing component issues with your vehicle.

What are the implications of the dealer discovering the ECU has been remapped?
There should be no implications – because nothing we do exceeds the manufacturer’s limits within the ECU. We work within these limits to unlock the potential of your engine.

Can I tell my dealer about my ECU remap?
Yes, because nothing we do exceeds the manufacturer’s limits within the ECU. We work within these limits to unlock the potential of your engine. That said be aware that if they know about the ECU remap they may use it as an excuse for any other problems found. Just like fitting any accessory to your 4WD.

What power gain can I expect?
We average 35% to 40% power increase with our custom tuned ECU Remap packages that are fitted with the Roo Systems exhaust kit.

Why is Roo Systems different to other available ECU Remaps?
At Roo Systems we have collected data from over 5000 hours of Dyno testing, 300,000 KLM’s of real world testing to get you the best custom tune to suit your 4WD, your driving style and our match-tuned exhaust. This gives you the best possible tune available to suit the Australian vehicles and conditions. How many 3TN caravans do you see in Europe being towed in 40-degree heat?

Will This Increase My Fuel Economy?
In most cases, we see better fuel economy. The extra power and early torque curve of the Roo System ECU remap and exhaust kits give you more power while using less fuel.

I Have Already Installed A New Exhaust?
We can tune our ECU remap to suit your current system.
